England manager says Rapinoe ‘one of the important players’USA forward retired from international football on Sunday
Sarina Wiegman has hailed Megan Rapinoe as “one of the most important players” after the 2019 Ballon d’Or winner played her final game for the US women’s national team and prepares for her retirement at the end of the NWSL season.
Speaking ahead of England’s Nations League match against the Netherlands, Wiegman said of Rapinoe: “I think she is one of the most important players. I think the US were the trailblazers in women’s football, and also for the position of women in society. We should be all very thankful for what she leaves behind. I have so much respect for her.”
