Qualifying 2nd leg: PSG 3-1 Man Utd (PSG win 4-2 on aggregate)Lieke Martens double puts Paris Saint-Germain into group stage
Manchester United’s dream of a Champions League run is over, a 3-1 defeat by the two-time finalists Paris Saint-Germain denying them a place in the group stage for the first time.
United have coveted a spot in Europe’s elite club competition since their reformation in 2018. It took just five years for the club to earn a place in the brutal Champions League qualifying stages by finishing second in the WSL last season. If the 1-1 draw in the first leg at Leigh Sports Village had given them hope, then the second in Paris offered a flavour of just how tough the job is once you’re in Europe. United were far from embarrassed here, in fact they had enough chances to have merited a win and were denied a legitimate goal that would have reduced the deficit to one on 71 minutes, but their profligacy proved costly.
