A first home win of the season, a first anywhere since August and over a potential relegation rival proved most welcome. Their victory might have been more comfortable without another case of VAR controversy and confusion.
Brentford represent a blueprint for Vincent Kompany to follow. In trademark cap and shiny white trainers, Burnley’s ever-pacing manager and his team showed they have much to learn from the hosts. Nine matches in, having beaten only Luton, there are grounds for serious concern over last season’s Championship winners.
