Are podcasts all populated by centrist ex-politicians offering remainer hot takes? It can feel like it. We mentioned the proliferation of these podcasts a while back, but the rise in middle aged men hosting shows – from Gary Lineker’s The Rest is Football podcast to Dan Snow’s History Hit – has hit such heights that this week, the Guardian’s Archie Bland coined a term for them: “dadcasts”.
Don’t worry, though, as ever you can expect a balanced, broad range of shows from our preview of the week. We’ve got journalist Michele Norris charmingly getting mega-celebs like Matthew McConaughey to reminisce about the family kitchen of their youth, a staggering expose of sexual abuse within England’s mental health wards and a whimsically comic spoof of fandom-pleasing companion podcasts. They’re joined by five of the best health and wellness podcasts, from hypnotic, meditative soundtracks to a revolutionary look at gut health.
