Court rules that another aspect of Coalition-era laws to strip citizenship is invalid

The high court has ruled that the government cannot strip Australians of their citizenship even after a conviction for terrorism offences, after a successful appeal by convicted terrorist Abdul Nacer Benbrika.
The decision of a majority of the court on Wednesday struck downanother part of Coalition-era powers, following a similar ruling in June 2022 that found suspected terrorists cannot be punished by ministers removing their citizenship.
