Hard to control emotions post-match, says City managerCity one win away from Champions League last 16
Pep Guardiola has said the continuing confusion over VAR decisions makes it very difficult for managers to control their feelings after the game. The Manchester City manager was talking after a weekend in which the officiating at the Newcastle v Arsenal game caused controversy, Anthony Gordon’s goal allowed to stand despite a triple VAR check.
The Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, who worked with Guardiola at City, was furious after the match, which Newcastle won 1-0 and said he was “sick” and “embarrassed” by the decision. Arsenal followed up with a strongly worded statement on Sunday, calling for improvement in the standard of refereeing and criticising what they called “unacceptable errors” at St James’ Park.
