Fifa’s transfer rules contrary to EU law, says the EU’s highest court – video

The court of justice of the European Union’s decision in Fifa v the player ‘BZ’ could have consequences for the way the transfer market operates with the case sparking questions about how Fifa will adjust its rules going forward. The court stated: ‘The rules in question are such as to impede the free movement of professional footballers wishing to develop their activity by going to work for a new club.’

It comes after Lassana Diarra brought legal action against Fifa and the Belgian football league, claiming a loss of earnings, after Lokomotiv Moscow prevented the midfielder from moving to Charleroi while Fifa fined the midfielder €10.5m for breaching his contract with Lokomotiv.
