Run of seconds at Cheltenham ends for trainer‘He’s a brilliant horse to ride,’ says Gavin Sheehan
After 11 second-place finishes at Cheltenham, trainer Richard Hobson finally got a winner on the board at the home of jumping here on Saturday. Fugitif, at 13-2, got up in the final stride of the December Gold Cup to deny the front-running Il Ridoto.
Gavin Sheehan, Fugitif’s jockey, was a long way off the strong place set by Il Ridoto and Frero Banbou and Il Ridoto was still in front over the last before Sheehan roused his partner for a final effort that got him home with a split-second to spare.
