Under-fire Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has revealed former England captain David Beckham recently got in touch to offer support and advice. The mockery of Maguire hit new heights when he was jeered relentlessly by Scotland fans after coming on as a substitute at Hampden Park, scoring an own goal. Maguire immediately laughed it off as a “little bit of banter” but admitted hearing from somebody that knows a thing or two about intense criticism meant the world to him.
Beckham faced his own share of criticism during his time as a player and has recently spoken out about it in his new Netflix documentary. Maguire said: “It shows how classy he is to reach out to me and to message me. It was something I really appreciated. It was touching really.”
