Referee’s controversial late call led to furious City reactionErling Haaland not subject to personal charges over behaviour
Manchester City have been charged by the Football Association following the furious confrontation with referee Simon Hooper that blighted the end of an otherwise thrilling 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Premier League champions have been charged with failing to control their players after a set-to followed Hooper’s decision not to allow City a possibly important advantage in the final minutes of play. The official had waved play on following a foul on Erling Haaland near the centre circle, prompting the striker to set Jack Grealish clear on goal via a quickly-hit through pass. However, soon after the ball reached Grealish, Hooper blew for the initial foul.
