Southampton announce new manager Russell Martin after Swansea exit agreed

The Scot spent two years with Swansea in the ChampionshipSwansea to replace Martin with Barnsley’s Michael Duff

Southampton have appointed Russell Martin as their new manager, following the club’s relegation to the Championship. Martin, 37, has left Swansea to take up his new position, having managed in south Wales since August 2021, putting to an end a dispute between the two clubs over compensation.

The former Scotland international led Swansea to within three points of a Championship playoff berth in the most recent campaign, but has now been tempted to a club who finished bottom of last season’s Premier League, after a campaign that featured three managers in Ralf Hasenhüttl, Nathan Jones and latterly Rubén Sellés. He has signed a three-year contract.
