Tim Loughton responds after Greek archaeologist raised concerns about protection of country’s heritage
A Conservative MP has accused Greece of “blatant opportunism” in claiming ancient treasures such as the Parthenon marbles are not safe in the British Museum after thefts from the institution.
Tim Loughton, the chair of the all-party parliamentary group on the British Museum, said the disclosure of stolen and missing items was “damaging” but the museum’s staff and trustees were taking the matter seriously.
