Fifa has instructed referees at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand to explain the reasoning behind on-field review decisions to the crowd and TV audience, as well as continue to crack down on time wasting.
The other major difference compared with the men’s tournament in Qatar will be referees clamping down on goalkeepers who try to distract the kicker in a penalty shootout.
